What we can help you with

Our counsellors are trained to help individuals suffering from a wide range of difficulties, or who have endured any of a number of unpleasant experiences.  The list below, though far from exhaustive, can give an idea as to some of the issues regularly brought to counselling:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Anger
  • Relationship Problems
  • Bereavement
  • PTSD
  • Trauma
  • Abuse
  • Young people affected by school experiences or their parents' relationship
  • Bullying
  • Life changes
  • Self-harm
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Eating disorders
  • Sexual & gender issues
  • Victim of crime
  • Survivor of sexual assault or rape
  • Domestic violence
  • Drug or alcohol problems

(If your difficulties are not mentioned here, this does not mean we are unable to help--it only means we didn't want to break the internet by listing every potential client issue!)

In real terms, Reading Counsellors does not have a specific 'home' address.  In an attempt to be as accessible as possible, we tend to work from different locations on different days of the week; our clients don't normally have to travel too far, which means that people who otherwise could not enter counselling can now do so.  At present, we see clients at four locations:

  • Central Reading (Weekdays, Evenings & Saturdays)
  • Tilehurst (Wednesday evenings, Thursday & Fridays)
  • Whitley (Weekdays, Evenings & Saturdays)
  • East Reading (Mondays)

Most of our client work is carried out on a private basis, agreed between the counsellor and the client.  However, many of our counsellors have experience working as part of larger organisations--such as businesses or school settings--providing counselling to staff or that organisation's demographic (e.g. students).  If you are an organisation and would like to discuss providing counselling to your employees/colleagues, please feel free to get in touch.
